Why You Should Travel Solo

Going on a six hour plane ride by myself was a tad nerve-wracking at first. I soon came to realize that travelling alone is actually so empowering and a lot of fun.

You can go and do whatever you want without any restrictions. You may think travelling with your best friend is done without compromise, but it’s not. You don’t realize how much freedom you have until you are free. You can eat anywhere, sit anywhere and do whatever you want on your own terms. There is no need to consider someone else’s feelings or compromise because they are not there.

On the other hand, you are required to have some human interaction along your solo travels. Being by yourself forces you to speak to other people. This helps you get out of your comfort zone. Maybe you wouldn’t have spoken to the lady next to you on the plane if you had a friend with you.

It’s so empowering. You get to understand yourself better, since you don’t have anyone else’s influence but your own. You feel in charge of your life. Solo travel is a really great confidence boost, especially when you successfully get to your destination without any hiccups.

You probably will be less stressed out not having to worry about your travel buddy the whole time. You are completely in control of what happens. If your travel buddy forgot to pack their license, or packs their gallon shampoo bottle in their carry-on, that is not something you need to worry about.

Solo travel is one of the best things to do because it’s all up to you exactly what you do. You can be completely selfish in what time you go, what you eat for lunch and if you want to read the whole time.

For anyone who is nervous, just take the leap and do it. Start small. Even a small victory is still a victory.

You will thank me later.
