“Why Do You Want to Work for Us?”
Besides the fact that I need money, let me think…
Job interviews are pretty scary and challenging for the average person; Never mind someone who will be across the country in less than four months.
Being a perfect candidate for the job is hard enough. If you don’t have the availability, they won’t hire you. This is something I have learned the hard way living on both coasts.
Here are a few tips that I’ve compiled from research, A.K.A. living my life.
Tip number one: Do not keep your availability a secret!
It’s better to get that out into the open from the beginning. Be very transparent, but don’t mention it until you have that interview date and time set. Seeing that you are not available six months out of the year on paper, will make your resume an automatic beverage coaster.
Tip number two: Make everything else about your interview perfect!
Make sure every other aspect of your interview is flawless. How you look, how you smell, what you say and more, need to be on point because you are coming in there with a big con. Sell them you!
Tip number three: Keep your options open!
Don’t apply to only one place and hope that it works out. You need to apply to as many places as possible to increase your chances of getting a job. If they say that they will give you a call back, chances are you won’t get a call back. They will offer you the job on the spot if they want you. Don’t waste time for any job.
Tip number four: There is always retail!
Working in retail is probably the worst, but they are practically always hiring anyone. They frequently hire seasonally, so your best chance is to get into retail if all else fails.
There is hope. I’ve personally been hired to three different jobs, in different fields based on my availability! Good luck!
